Chicago, IL (April 26, 2023) – On Wednesday night, officials say that a Chicago police officer and a second driver were both hurt in a collision on the city’s North Side, sending both to the hospital.

The Chicago Police Department reports that at about 8:15 p.m., a 35-year-old man was driving south in the 5200 block of North Ashland Avenue when he allegedly crashed into a marked police vehicle. The officer in the automobile, who was reportedly responding to a report of a person with a gun, was also using his emergency lights and sirens.

CPD reported that both the officer and the driver were in stable condition after being transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital. There were no further injuries reported.

The Nissan driver was issued a citation for failing to slow down and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle. An investigation remains active in the meantime.

Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their loved ones at this time.
